The Best Mattress Available?

What is the best mattress available?" Alan Hilibrand, MD, professor of orthopaedic surgery at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and a spokesman for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons states, "Researchers have tried very hard to study this in a scientific fashion and have found that there is too much variability between people to come to any firm conclusions about what's the best mattress."
With over thirty eight years in the mattress business as a designer, manufacturer, sales rep, and retailer, I concur. Each customer is unique and brings the eliment of variability. What is needed to assist each customer is a carfully trained salesperson and a trusted mattress dealer. The Better Sleep Council and ISPA (International Sleep Products Association) have sponsored researchs that showed the most important element to the customer when making the correct mattress purchase decision is trust in the mattress dealer. It ranked much higher than product brand.
There are a lot of very good mattresses on the market today, as well as a lot of very poor mattresses. When educating yourself prior to making a purchase, be careful to avoid all the "giberish" about number of coils, layers of foams, etc. The more coils a mattress has does NOT indicate if a mattress offers more or less support than a another mattress! There are a lot of sales stories that have NO bearing on weather a particular mattress is right for you or not. Also the most expensive or the "best deal" may not be the right mattress for you.
Find a local retailer that you trust and then give them an opportunity to get information from you that they will need in order to direct you to the right mattress for you.
